It is designed to operate in environments built for humans: stairs, doorways, uneven ground. Reported specifications include a high number of degrees of freedom compared to earlier research platforms, enabling relatively dexterous arm and hand movement alongside bipedal locomotion.

Unitree has published video demonstrations of the G1 performing manipulation tasks, locomotion over varied terrain, and interaction with objects. These demonstrations are a useful reference but should not be taken as a guarantee of performance in your specific application: real-world deployment results depend heavily on the software stack you build on top of the hardware.

Operating software

The G1 is designed to work with ROS 2 (Robot Operating System 2), the open-source middleware widely used in robotics research. Unitree provides an SDK and a set of control APIs.
